BIOM 421: OSMOTIC ENGINE
ASSUMPTIONS MADE FOR MODEL
The cell only moves in one-dimension.
Flux parameters are constant
No reactions going on with water-only diffusion through cell
Only interaction with cell wall is basic adhesion
Wall is not secreting or adsorbing water
MODEL
Using CompuCell3D (CC3D) a basic osmotic engine was modeled using a cancer cell, wall boundries, and water gradient. A water gradient was specified and then using the chemotaxis, flux, and volume modules the cancer cell could be attracted to the higher gradient of the water found between the two cell walls. The cancerous cells appear in green and the channel within the cellular matrix appears in blue. In the model to the right, a 3D channel was created in order to view the how the volume changed as it moved towards the higher concentration water gradient.
